Hi Im Rox, 26, UK, she/they There's a fair amount of fandom stuff, wings & purple aesthetic here Please drop a message if you wanna chat about something, anything and everything really
“oh they’re not taking away chronological dashboard, well everything’s okay then” they also said in the post they’re making reblogs collapsed (like comments on twitter) so you won’t see the full conversation in a post. they also won’t get rid of tumblr live despite it being an annoying and cancerous data-miner that isn’t legal in much of the world. they won’t even let you opt out of tumblr live for more than seven days. they implemented a terrible photo viewer that mimics tiktok and makes it so you can’t zoom in on images. they took away the ability to view prev tags. they’re making it so you have to sign in with your email to view almost any thing on tumblr. they’ve already made it so you have to sign in to send asks, even on anon. they’re slowly phasing out custom blog themes.
the things that make tumblr at all usable and favored by us– the older web blog features, the anonymity– that is still being taken away. it HAS been being taken away for some time now. i am urging you people to reveiwbomb the tumblr app. force them to acknowledge that users do not like these changes.
Good news! You can let Tumblr Staff know what you think about every version of Tumblr in a way that they might listen to! Here is a long survey from a blog associated with Staff and here is a short survey from the same blog. The blog, although full of surveys, does not allow reblogs. However, I took the long survey and later they improved one thing I complained about, so there is a chance more people complaining about changes could halt their enshittification. I cannot retake the surveys, so I must ask you all to send feedback where I cannot.
Pasting these links all at the end too for ease of access:
i was thinking about that post comparing Jessica Rabbit as an asexual to Barbie and an asexual and then i thought of the Neil Gaiman post (was it a post?) about Crowley and Aziraphale being asexual and then this happened.

Containment Breach
I’ve been inundated with over 120 new followers in the last 5 hours. I haven’t been able to even check if I have any pornbots. I’m tired and need to go to bed. I’ll clean up this mess tomorrow.
This is cool to look at, though. I’m studying some data-science adjacent fields so things like this are fascinating to me.
I’ve been told I should submit this to world-heritage-posts. Just to make it clear what happened to me, here’s a screenshot of my notifications activity in the last 24 hours.
For additional context, I’ve only been here 4 days.
At his point, I’ve been here 5 days and this post has 85k+ notes. My notifications have recovered to the point that sometimes they’re empty so I’d say the breach has been recontained and now I just need to deal with the cleanup process.
I figure it might be interesting to show just what this experience has been like.
This is my notification history over the last week. I joined Tumblr Saturday June 17th, 2023 around 12pm so the actual data starts half way through the chart. My follower count has grown at a roughly equal pace.
Overall, I enjoyed the whole thing once the shock died down. I was just surprised this was the post that would gain any traction at all. I expected the chicken posts would be the first ones to reach triple digits and only several months later. But I’ve enjoyed reading peoples’ reactions and chatting with folks here.
I’ll close out by sharing some other achievements I’ve gotten since:
It’s free to give: Like a post
It’s great to receive: Have a post be liked

And blocked: Receive hate mail
Also blocked: Receive a creepy DM
To the scrapyard with you!: Report a pornbot

And with this, I’m going to call this chapter of the Saga of Containment Breach closed

♩♫♩Guess what happened?
♩♫♩Guess what happened?
♩♫♫♩And you know what that means!
My Tumblr childhood lasted a day and a half.
I’ve been here a month now which means this is the last day I can see all my activity data.
As you can see, activity on my blog has greatly stabilized. I’m definitely getting greater than average traffic (1,000+ notifications per day) but I’m getting notifications from other posts, not just this one.

Reblog if you’re comfortable receiving crabs on Crab Day (July 29th) so all your beloved followers know who they can comfortably crab on crab day (July 29th) without feeling nervous about crabbing someone 9n Crab Day (July 29th).
The poem is written in common hymn meter (alternating lines of 8 and 6 syllables, usually iambs), so there are many possible tunes you can use to sing it:
TLDR; don’t give tumblr money until they start making visible improvements towards accessibility
I’ve seen a few posts around about something people are calling crab day where you’re supposed to gift the crab button to your mutuals to support Tumblr financially. Please don’t participate in this unless Tumblr starts making noticeable improvements towards accessibility between now and then. It’s been 5 months of me trying to get the bare minimum of accessibility for photosensitive users or even just find out who I can talk to to get anywhere, and Tumblr is refusing to make any changes.
@photomatt has doubled down on the suggestion that you should just pay for ad-free or install an ad-blocker instead of listening to any of the suggestions photosensitive users have repeatedly made. Please do not give money to Tumblr until they show a commitment to accessibility because they will continue to ignore our requests if it doesn’t impact them financially.
Some of the requests we’ve made are:
1. Allow us to disable autoplay on browser as well as the app. This is an accessibility feature, not a data-saving feature, and should be treated as such.
2. Include ads in disabling of autoplay, along with other formats that currently get around the autoplay feature. Currently even if you have autoplay disabled you can still end up with flashing lights in your face every few posts from ads.
3. Improve the reporting process for strobing ads. The quick reporting process doesn’t provide good options to ensure the person reviewing the report realizes that it’s being reported for flashing lights so you have to hope they agree it’s either malicious or offensive and don’t just brush you off as abusing the report function. The more complicated reporting process involves getting a screenshot and the link that the ad brings you to, which requires lingering on the ad, which if you’re trying to report the ad for your safety, is dangerous. You can also still get the same ad 10 times a row after reporting it until it’s been reviewed. Which again, presents a danger to users.
4. Add a community label for flashing lights. Flashing lights are commonly untagged or mistagged, even sometimes maliciously. It would be extremely helpful to the photosensitive community to be able to add a warning to a post that doesn’t have one.
I’ve talked a lot about the photosensitive community in this post because that’s what I have personal experience with and what @photomatt has explicitly come out and just said to buy ad-free about, but there are definitely other accessibility issues that need to be addressed as well (like the alt text function needing improvements to make it accessible to users who need it and don’t use screenreaders, or the fact that a lot of tumblr official stuff still doesn’t seem to use the alt text feature themselves). Please feel free to add on accessibility issues I’ve missed in the reblogs.
Kinda thinking of that post that’s saying the Pokemon in Detective Pikachu are good because they’re “cartoony” when in reality they’re pretty realistic, but keep a good balance between their cartoonishness without the creepy hyperrealistic renderings we’re used to seeing out of edgelord artists. Ironically, the people who did this movie took a lot of cues from an artist on Deviantart who did hyperrealistic-looking Pokemon.
I dunno, these look pretty realistic to me. The key is they render the cartoony elements (like Majikarp’s eyes and the shape of his fins) pretty accurately so it doesn’t just look like a rat hauling a weird fish, you can tell that’s a Pikachu and a Majikarp.
They also did a good job keeping most of the cute Pokemon looking fairly cute,
What I like about these designs is that they’ve got a good balance of traits that make them instantly recognizable enough that any Pokemon fan can name them at a glance, but given just enough nuance and realistic elements that presumably wouldn’t render very well in a cartoon. (For example, the little hairs on the inner part of Jigglypuff’s ears, Pikachu’s fluffy fur, and Charizard’s rough, dinosaur-like scales).
You can tell the people behind the design choices are really passionate about Pokemon and wanted to create characters you could easily suspend your disbelief to accept and also fully enjoy with the original ‘flavor’ of Pokemon as a long-time fan.
And anyway I just wanted to talk about how cool that all was.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
